Saoirse Ronan stars as Maria, a primary school teacher whose class is dominated by the appalling behaviour of one foul-mouthed, violent student. After a disturbing incident, Maria takes matters into her own hands. But when the boy disappears, she is shocked by how readily the parents accept his absence.

As events spiral, Maria finds herself caught between her own increasingly questionable choices and a community that seems remarkably willing to look the other way. With caustic humour and an unsettling edge, this sharp satirical thriller asks what we’re prepared to ignore to maintain the appearance of harmony and safety.
