In a forgotten patch of countryside, a writer and young mother is battling her demons: embracing exclusion yet wanting to belong, craving freedom whilst feeling trapped, yearning for family life but wanting to burn the entire house down. Given surprising leeway by her family for her increasingly erratic behaviour, she nevertheless feels ever more stifled and repressed, while her companion grows worried and helpless.

Earning widespread critical praise for her ferocious, career-best performance, Lawrence anchors Ramsay’s strikingly vivid drama with an astonishing portrayal of the often-overlooked, underlying rage and madness simmering beneath the surface in the experiences of motherhood, womanhood, and love.
