Iris and the Men (M)

Iris and the Men movie poster

After the smash-hit international success of Antoinette In The Cévennes, writer/director Caroline Vignal and the fabulous Laure Calamy reunite for a comedy about reignited desire in the modern age.

“They’re not”. This is how Iris answers her doctor when she is asked how things are going with her husband. The words slip from her mouth like a brutal realisation: how long has it been since they last made love? Yet everything else is great: her partner loves her, they have two happy daughters, she runs a successful medical practice, lives in a beautiful apartment and has the best friends one could hope for... But soon Iris will be turning 50. It is a stranger who whispers the seed of an idea: “Take a lover”. So she dares open Pandora’s box, and hesitantly registers herself on a dating app. Immediately, men start to appear...

So begins this cheeky, joyous and conversation-starting delight, in which Calamy completes her transformation from quirky character actress into unadulterated comedic star.

★★★★ "A feel-good delight! Calamy, unleashed, offers a very funny and engaging performance" LE PARISIEN

★★★★ "The mischievous tone and the surprises of the story give an ingenuous charm to a story that speaks to our times" FEMME ACTUELLE

★★★★ "Delightful. Calamy is more sparkling than ever in this free-spirited fantasy. Nimble without being crude, the film could open the door to great discussions as a couple or between friends and – who knows? – perhaps also to new experiences" CAROLINE VIÉ

"Do you feel like having a bit of fun? Then take yourself to this conversation-starting, laugh-out-loud comedy. Calamy is brilliant as a woman rediscovering her sexuality. The look on her face is all you need to see. She is excited to be alive. It's intoxicating to watch" AUSTRALIAN

"Credible and a lot of fun. Calamy, of course, holds the film. She is literally in every frame and her performance is emotionally generous, skilled and compelling" FILMINK

"Crowd-pleasing comedy... Calamy has the core screwball skill of knowing how to sacrifice all dignity while retaining the allure of a star." THE AGE
