Apart from the Women's Adventure Film Tour showing on Wednesday, we're taking a week off, returning September 24.

It Ends (MA 15+)

It Ends movie poster

From writer-director Alexander Ullom, comes his phenomenal feature debut It Ends, a tense open road horror-thriller drenched in anxiety, depression, desperation, and unexpected humour.

A group of recent graduates head out on a late-night drive for takeout, hoping to enjoy one final hangout before their paths diverge. Instead, they accidentally turn onto a never-ending, two lane hellscape surrounded by untold horrors and cosmic forces beyond their understanding.

Featuring standout performances from cast members, Akira Jackson, Phinehas Yoon, Noah Toth and Mitchell Cole, It Ends thrives on the terror of liminality, where suspense comes not from the fear that something is around the next corner, but the fear that nothing is around the next corner. It is a compelling consideration of connection we crave but often take for granted or fumble altogether, translating into a memorably haunting cinematic experience for viewers.

Cast: Phinehas Yoon, Akira Jackson, Noah Toth, Jenny Doyle, Jon Linstad, Ian Weir, Antonio Andrés Rosello, Dakota Shiver, Dennis Brewer, Ethan Tramel

★★★★½ "In an already stacked year for horror movies, Alexander Ullom’s It Ends proves to be one of the most terrifying and wildly original." DISCUSSING FILM

★★★★★ "Through this horrifying premise and powerfully simple, sense-dulling filmmaking, Alex Ullom becomes a filmmaker to watch as he inquires about the very real lack of motivation in a generation without direction." STARBURST

★★★★ "Writer/Director Alexander Ullom nestles an existential crisis within his genre-bending road trip thriller in his feature debut. What begins as an intense horror movie settles into a meditative rhythm for an inventive slice-of-life metaphor." BLOODY DISGUSTING

★★★★ "If Sartre famously said that hell is other people, It Ends seems to suggest that they might be able to save us too." GUARDIAN

★★★★ "The hamster wheel of adulthood gets ironed out into an endless road with this witty thriller that riffs on both No Exit and Reality Bites. Phinehas Yoon is utterly fantastic." MOVIE SQUAD

★★★★ "While the road—what it is or what it’s meant to symbolize—is the talking point of "It Ends," it’s the characters that make the movie work." METRO ARTS
