Kinds of Kindness (MA 15+)

Kinds of Kindness movie poster

From director Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Favourite) comes a cinematic triptych starring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Hong Chau, Margaret Qualley and Joe Alwyn, co-written by Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou (Alps, Dogtooth, The Lobster).

Three fables explore how acts intended as kindness might have unforeseen consequences: A man seeks to break free from his predetermined path, a policeman questions his wife's demeanour after she returns from time away, and a woman's quest to locate an extraordinary individual takes her on a full-circle journey.

Cast: Emma Stone, Margaret Qualley, Jesse Plemons, Hunter Schafer, Willem Dafoe, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie

★★★★★ "a salacious, sun-bleached fable" LITTLE WHITE LIES

★★★★ "Yorgos Lanthimos’s unnerving and amusing new film...is a macabre, absurdist triptych" GUARDIAN

★★★★ "sophisticated writing and perfect performances...Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos is joined by Emma Stone again in a dark and ambitious triptych of absurdist tales" TIMES UK

★★★★ "Another humane, odd and highly accomplished Yorgos Lanthimos film, one that sees him returning to the tone of his earlier work after The Favourite and Poor Things." EMPIRE MAGAZINE

★★★★ "an intelligent and darkly funny film that brings together a bevy of cast and crew members all at the top of their game" EVENING STANDARD

★★★★ "A huge part of the fun is getting caught in the mesh of mind games the film sets for its audience... But it’s also a treat just to watch the well-picked ensemble show off their range in the constantly rotating supporting roles." DAILY TELEGRAPH UK

★★★★ "Stick with it and you're rewarded with another movie that only Lanthimos could make, one that'll have you wincing, laughing and thinking – often all within the same scene." DIGITAL SPY

★★★★ "With continual surprises, this is fiercely original and unforgettable." SHADOWS ON THE WALL

★★★★ "A 164-minute blackly comic, absurdist, and boundary-pushing surrealist drama that makes his previous oddity, last year’s award-winning Poor Things, practically child’s play in comparison." AU REVIEW
